Ingredients:


1 Pound hamburger

1 medium onion, chopped.

32 ounces crushed tomatoes

3 cans consomme

1 can tomato soup

4 medium carrots peeled and chopped

3 pieces celery stalks sliced thin

7 tablespoons barley

2 cups water

1 large bay leaf broken up

1/2 teaspoon Thyme to taste

1/2 teaspoon Pepper to taste

1/2 teaspoon Parsley flakes to taste
 

Preparation / Directions:


In a skillet, brown hamburger and onion together. Drain fat. Combine all ingredients in a very large pot. Bring to a boil. Put lid on. Turn down to simmer. Stir occasionally. Cook for 2 hours or until the barley is cooked. This soup freezes well.
