Hamburger Soup

Ingredients:

1         lb.           hamburger
1         medium        onion, chopped.
1         large can     crushed tomatoes
3         cans          consommé
1         can           tomato soup
4                       carrots, peeled and chopped
3                       celery stalks, sliced thin
7         tbsp.         barley
2         cups          water
1                       bay leaf, broken up
                        Thyme, to taste
                        Pepper, to taste
                        Parsley flakes, to taste
 

Preparation:

In a skillet, brown hamburger and onion together. Drain fat. Combine all ingredients in a very large pot. Bring to a boil. Put lid on. Turn down to simmer. Stir occasionally. Cook for 2 hours or until the barley is cooked. This soup freezes well.
