Ingredients:

1 cup All-purpose flour*
1/2 cup Sugar
1/3 cup Shortening
1/2 teaspoon Baking powder
1/4 teaspoon Baking soda
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1 Large Egg
1 tablespoon Plus 2 ts Milk
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
1/2 cup Raisins or cut-up dates
1/2 cup Chopped walnuts
1 1/2 cups Whole wheat flake cereal -- Crushed
1 jar Candied or maraschino cherry
 

Preparation / Directions:

*if using self-rising flour omit Baking soda and salt. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease cookie sheet. Mix flour, sugar, shortening baking powder, baking soda, salt, egg, milk, and vanilla thoroug Stir in raisins and nuts. Drop dough by teaspoonfuls into cereal an roll gently until completely coated. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet. Press a cherry into each cookie. Bake about 10 to 12 minutes or until light brown.
