Spicy Turnips

Ingredients:

1 kilogram turnips -- peeled and cut in four or more if big
2 cloves garlic
3 tablespoons butter
1 medium hot chili pepper
1 piece ginger chopped
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 teaspoons coriander seeds
2 tablespoons plain yogurt
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup water or more
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon garam masala
 

Preparation / Directions:

Mix in a blender: garlic, pepper, ginger, cumin, coriander and the yogurt, to make a paste. Melt butter in a pan and saute the turnips for a few minutes until they become a bit golden. Remove the turnip and keep aside. Fry the paste in the pan for a minute. Add the turnips put the water, bring to boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Add the sugar, the garam masala and increase the heat to evaporate all the water. The turnip must be cooked when the water is gone, you may need more than a cup of water! and more than 15 minutes.
