Yankee Yams

Ingredients:


2 tablespoons butter or margarine -- softened

5 medium sweet potatoes -- or yams

3 medium cooking apples -- * see note

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 cup maple syrup

2 tablespoons butter or margarine -- melted

2 tablespoons chopped pecans -- optional
 

Preparation / Directions:


*peel apples, core, and cut each into 8 wedges Brush 2 tablespoons softened butter on bottom and about 6 inches up sides of slow-cooker. Peel sweet potatoes; cut into 1/2-inch crosswise slices. Place on bottom of slow-cooker. Top with apple wedges; then nutmeg, maple syrup and melted butter. Cover and cook on Low 3 1/2 to 4 hours or until tender. Sprinkle with pecans, if desired.
