Preparation / Directions:
When shopping, look for crisp green tops; 2 to 3 inches of white root.To Prepare: Wash onions; remove any loose layers of skin. Leave about 3 inches of green tops.To Boil: Heat 1 inch water (salted, if desired) to boiling. Add onions. Cover and heat to boiling; reduce heat. Boil 8 to 10 minutes or just until tender; drain.To Steam: Place steamer basket in 1/2 inch water (water should not touch bottom of basket). Place onions in basket. Cover tightly and heat to boiling; reduce heat. Steam 8 to 10 minutes or just until tender.To Microwave: Place onions and 2 tablespoons water in 1-1/2-quart microwavable casserole. Cover tightly and microwave on high 1 to 2 minutes or just until tender. Let stand covered 1 minute; drain.
