Ingredients:

2 pounds stewing meat -- cubed

1/2 cup flour

1/4 cup salad oil

2 medium onions -- wedged

5 cups water

2 pieces bay leaves

2 teaspoons salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1/4 teaspoon msg (optional)

4 cans tomato sauce (8 oz. cans)

4 small carrots -- chunked

4 small potatoes -- quartered

1 cup celery -- sliced

Preparation / Directions:

Dredge beef in flour, brown lightly on all sides in hot oil. Add onions and brown slightly. Place all ingredients in crockpot and cook 8-10 hours. Other vegetables (e.g., frozen corn, green beans, etc.) can be added. I usually use sirloin tip, but any good quality beef can be employed. For real local style, have cooked rice available that can be stirred in individual bowls at serving time and serve Portuguese sweetbread on the side.
