Old-Time Pea Soup

Ingredients:


2 cups split peas -- green or yellow

5 cups chicken broth

5 cups water

4 ounces salt pork -- (or smaller)

1/2 cup chopped onions

1 cup chopped celery

1/2 cup grated carrots

1 whole bay leaf

1 teaspoon thyme -- or less
 

Preparation / Directions:


Bring to boil, lower heat and simmer for about 2 hours. Put half of the soup in a food processor if so desired. Remove the salt pork and bay leaf. In place of the salt pork you might want to add a ham bone left over from Sunday's dinner, with a bit of meat left on i
