Quick Basic Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients:


1 tablespoon olive oil

1 medium onion -- chopped

2 cloves garlic -- minced

1/4 cup dry red wine or broth

28 ounces tomatoes in puree

1/4 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste

1/2 cup fresh basil -- chopped

1/4 cup parmesan cheese -- grated

1 cup mushrooms chopped and cooked -- optional

1/2 cup sliced pitted black olives -- optional
 

Preparation / Directions:


Heat olive oil in a saucepan. Add onion, garlic cloves; cook over medium heat until tender. Add wine, tomatoes in puree, sugar, salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Add basil and Parmesan cheese. Add Mushrooms and olives if used. If you can't get hold of fresh basil, a mixture of fresh parsley and a little dried basil is a good substitut
