Ingredients:

5 cups bread cubes

1/3 cup raisins

12 large eggs

1 1/2 quarts half and half

2 tablespoons vanilla

1 pinches salt

1 cup sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/2 cup butter

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup water

1 large egg -- beaten

1/3 cup bourbon

Preparation / Directions:

Breads may include raisin bread, white bread, eggbread, and/or some sourdough. Prepare bread pudding by first placing cubes of bread in a baking dish. Sprinkle with raisins. Mix together the dozen eggs, half and half, vanilla, salt, sugar, and cinnamon. Pour egg mixture over the bread. Let soak for about 10 minutes. Bake in a water bath at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. To make bourbon sauce, first melt butter in small saucepan. Add sugar and water, and cook for two minutes, stirring constantly. Gradually add butter and sugar to egg, beating constantly. Slowly stir in bourbon. If mixture develops lumps, strain it. Serve bread pudding warmed, then topped with bourbon sauce and whipped cream.
