Debi's Apple Pie

Ingredients:


---Filling:

12 medium apples -- peeled, cored and thinly sliced (cortland preferred)

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

3 tablespoons flour

1 dash salt

1 tablespoon butter (dotted on before top crust goes on)

---Crust:

2 1/2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter

1/4 cup shortening

1 tablespoon sugar

6 tablespoons ice cold water
 

Preparation / Directions:


Filling: Sprinkle sugars, cinnamon, flour and salt over sliced apples and blend well. Crust Sift together flour, salt and sugar. With pastry blender, cut in shortening and butter until well blended and crumbly. Sprinkle ice water over flour mixture one tablespoon at a time and mix until it forms a firm dough. Divide and roll out two crusts. Place bottom crust in a 9 or 10 inch pie plate. Add filling. Dot on Butter. Place top crust over filling and seal and flute the edges. Slash a few vent holes on top with a sharp knife.( I like to get a little creative here sometimes and make designs) Bake at 4500 for first 10 minutes and reduce heat to 3500 and continue baking for approximately 45 more minutes.
