Cottage Pie

Ingredients:


1 medium onion

2 tablespoons Sunflower/olive oil

1 package minced beef

1 bunch Mixed herbs

1 dash chilli

1 dash salt

1 dash pepper

2 can chopped tomatoes

2 or 3 pieces oxo cubes (or gravy granules)

2 medium carrots

1/2 package Frozen peas (equal amount of peas as there is carrot)

4 medium potatoes

1 package Grated cheddar cheese
 

Preparation / Directions:


1. Peel and chop potatoes and carrots, put carrots and peas in one pan with a bit of sugar, potatoes in another with butter/salt, stir occasionally throughout

2. Chop onion and fry in a large frying pan until browned

3. Add mince meat, stir until browned

4. Remove from heat and add herbs and spices etc, stir well

5. Put back on heat, add tinned tomatoes and oxo / gravy granules, you can leave this mixture until the veg is ready (doesn't matter if it cools)

6. When carrots and peas are ready, add them to mince mixture, transfer to oven dish

7. When potatoes are ready, mash with lots of butter and cheese and spread over top of mince (don't forget to save some cheese to sprinkle over the top)

8. Put in oven, about gas mark 7/220`c for about 15-20 mins its ready when the cheese has gone golden and crispy

 

Nutritional Information:

Tips: it is a good idea to drain the oil and fat from the mince off before you add the herbs and tomatoes. if the mince meat mixture is too dry, add water, if too wet, add a small amount of corn flour. for an extra full flavor, add a drop of red wine
