Apple Custard Pie - The Complete Dessert Cookbook

Ingredients:


1 crust unbaked 9-inch pie shell

1 cup thinly sliced apples -- peeled and cored

1/3 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

4 large eggs -- lightly beaten

2 cups milk -- heated until very warm

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt
 

Preparation / Directions:


1. Arrange apple slices on bottom of pie shell. 2. Combine 1 tablespoon sugar with cinnamon and nutmeg; sprinkle over apples. 3. Beat together eggs, remaining sugar, milk, vanilla and salt. 4. Place prepared pie plate on oven rack; pour egg mixture over apples in pie shell. 5. Bake in preheated 400 F. oven until knife inserted halfway between center and edge comes out clean, about 30 minutes. 6. Cool or chill pie before serving. NOTE: If using a frozen pie shell, it must be a deep-dish size.
