Apple Custard Pie

Ingredients:


1/2 crust plain pastry recipe

4 tablespoons flour

1 cup sugar

5 medium apples -- pared, cut in half

1 large egg -- beaten

1 1/2 cups evaporated milk

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
 

Preparation / Directions:


Line piepan with pastry, sprinkle 2 tablespoons flour and 1/4 cup sugar over bottom. Arrange apples cut side up in pastry shell. Combine egg and milk and pour over apples. Combine remaining flour and sugar with spices and sprinkle over top. Bake in very hot oven (450F) and bake 30 minutes longer, until apples are tender and custard firm. Makes 1 9-inch pie. SOUR CREAM APPLE: Omit egg, milk, cinnamon, and 1/2 flour. Combine remaining ingredients as above, bake as above, adding 1 cup sour cream after 25 minutes.
