Connie Stevens' Italian Meat Sauce

Ingredients:


1 medium onion -- finely chopped

30 milliliters garlic -- finely chopped

1 teaspoon sweet basil

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste

1 1/4 pounds ground beef

28 ounces tomato puree

15 ounces tomato sauce

6 ounces tomato paste

6 ounces water

1 teaspoon sugar

2 pieces bay leaves
 

Preparation / Directions:


Brown onion, garlic and sweet basil in olive oil. Add salt and pepper. After onion is yellowish, add ground beef. Brown. Add tomato puree, tomato sauce and tomato paste. Fill each can with water. Pour water into sauce. Add sugar and bay leaves. Stir well. Cover. Simmer for 1 hour. Remove cover. Simmer 1 more hour. Serve.
