Basic Vanilla Ice Cream

Ingredients:


2 cans sweetened condensed milk -- 14 ounce (e.g. eagle brand)

1 quart half-and-half

1 tablespoon vanilla extract -- plus 1 teaspoon
 

Preparation / Directions:


Combine all ingredients, mixing well. Pour mixture into freezer can of a 1-gallon hand-turned or electric freezer. Freeze according to manufacturer's instructions. Ripen ice cream 1 hour, if desired. Variations: Coffee Ice Cream Combine 2/3 c hot water and 1 T instant coffee granules, stirring until granules dissolve. Let cool slightly. Stir coffee mixture into the ice cream mixture just before freezing. Mint-Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Stir 1/2 c green creme de menthe (or use an amount to taste of mint flavoring concentrate) and 1 6 oz. pkg. semisweet chocolate mini-morsels into ice cream mixture just before freezing. Butter Pecan Ice Cream Add 1 T butter flavoring and 2 c coarsely chopped toasted pecans to ice cream mixture just before freezing. Double-Chocolate Ice Cream Stir 1 5.5 oz. can chocolate syrup (1/2 c) and 1 6 oz pkg. semisweet chocolate mini-morsels (1 c) into ice cream mixture before freezi
