Peppermint Sparkles

Ingredients:


1/2 cup butter -- (1 stick)

1/2 cup vegetable shortening

1 cup powdered sugar

1 large egg

1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon red food coloring

1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy
 

Preparation / Directions:


Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, cream butter, shortening, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla until smooth. Beat in flour and salt until blended. Divide batter in half; blend food coloring into one half. Form cookies by taking a bit less than a teaspoon of dough from each bowl and rolling together into a ball. Put cookies on greased or parchment lined baking sheets and flatten slightly with thumbprint. Sprinkle generously with crushed peppermint candy. Bake 9 to 10 minutes in a preheated 375-degree oven.
