Poached Pears

4 medium pears -- peeled but keep the stalks on
8 Ounces rose wine
4 Ounces caster sugar
1 Tablespoon ginger marmalade
3 pieces stem ginger
1 Tablespoon syrup from the stem ginger jar

Preparation / Directions:

Preheat oven to 325F. Place the pears in a deep ovenproof casserole, just large enough to hold them standing. Put the wine, sugar, ginger marmalade, stem ginger and syrup into a small pan, bring to the boil and simmer, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Pour the mixture over the pears and add enough water to come just leve with the stalks. Cover the dish and bake in the oven for 1 hour, or unti the pears are tender. Test with a small skewer. Remove from the oven and leave to cool. Cover and chill, spooning the syrup over the pears from time to time, and serve when you're read
