Tomato Dal (Tomato Pappu)

Ingredients:


1 cup tur gram -- (toor or toovar dal)

4 medium ripe tomatoes

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1/2 teaspoon black mustard seeds

1/2 teaspoon peeled broken black gram dal -- (urad dal)

2 medium green chiles

1 medium Onion

1 tablespoon oil

1 tablespoon chile powder

1 sprig curry leaves

1 teaspoon salt -- to taste
 

Preparation / Directions:


1. Boil tur gram and keep aside. 2. Chop tomatoes, onion and green chiles. 3. Fry cumin seeds, mustards seeds, black gram and curry leaves. Add onion and green chiles. After a minute, add tomatoes. 4. Add tur gram, half a glass of water, salt and chile powder. Cook until thick. Stir.
