Pulikkaachal (Tamarind Chutney)

Ingredients:


1 piece an orange-sized tamarind ball

1 tablespoon jaggery -- powdered

1 teaspoon turmeric

12 medium green chiles -- chopped

4 sprigs curry leaves -- chopped

1 piece ginger -- chopped 4 inch piece

1 teaspoon salt -- to taste

---FOR SEASONING---

1 teaspoon black mustard seeds

1 teaspoon black gram dal

3 medium red chiles -- broken

4 tablespoons oil
 

Preparation / Directions:


Extract juice from tamarind. Heat oil and add mustard seeds, black gram dal and red chiles. When brown, add green chiles and curry leaves and fry for a couple of minutes. Now add tamarind juice, jaggery, turmeric, salt and ginger. Cook until mixture is thick. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
