Ingredients:

   1      cup           all purpose flour
   2      tablespoons   cornstarch
     1/2  cup           sugar
     1/2  teaspoon      salt
     1/2  cup           salad oil
     1/2  cup           egg whites -- (from about 4 large
                        -- eggs)
   1      tablespoon    water
   2      teaspoons     vanilla
   1      In            a bowl -- stir together
                        -- flour, cornstarch,
                        -- sugar and salt. Add
                        -- oil and egg
                        whites
                        and beat until smooth -- beat in water and
                        -- vanilla.
   1      drops         batter by level tablespoonfuls on a well
                        -- greased baking sheet and
                        spread
                        with the back of a spoon into 4 inch
                        -- circles. Bake only 1 or 2 cookies per
                        at first -- then increase to 4
                        -- as your shaping
                        -- speed improves.
                        -- Bake in a 300
                        oven
                        for about 14 minutes -- until light golden
                        -- brown; if
                        -- underbaked, cookies
                        -- will
                        tear
                        during shaping.
                        With a wide spatula -- remove one cookie
                        -- at a time from the
                        -- oven. working
                        quickly
                        insert fortune and shape; fold in half
                        -- and then grasp ends and draw gently
                        over a pan
                        OR bowl to crease. Place ends down in -- so they
                        hold
                        the
                        -- muffin pans to cool
                        shape
                        Use cold -- well greased sheet
                        -- for each batch.
                        -- Makes about 2 1/2
