Date-Nut Pumpkin Cookies

1 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup light brown sugar -- firmly packed
1/2 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 cup pumpkin
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup snipped dates
1 cup chopped walnuts

Preparation / Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, beat butter and sugars together until fluffy. Add pumpkin, egg and vanilla, mix well. Sift dry ingredients and spices together. Add to pumpkin mixture and stir to mix well. Stir in nuts and dates. Drop batter by heaping teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets, 1 inch apart. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes or until tops are golden and centers firm to the touch. Remove from baking sheets and cool on wire racks.
