3 cups all purpose white flour -- preferably unbleached OR part white and part whole wheat flour
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup dark brown sugar -- firmly packed
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup solid shortening -- butter flavor crisco preferred

Preparation / Directions:

Combine all dry ingredients in large bowl. Cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Store in container with tight-fitting lid. Makes approximately 8 cups.
