1 cup honey
1 tablespoon lemon juice
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 large egg
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon lemon rind
1 teaspoon soda
1/3 cup citron
1/3 cup nuts
1/2 teaspoon allspice

Preparation / Directions:

Allow honey to come to a boil, cool. Add brown sugar, beaten egg, lemon rind and juice. Sift flour (if unsifted) before measuring. Add flour, soda, spices, citron and nuts. Let stand overnight in refrigerator. In morning, roll out 1/2 inch thick and cut into whatever shape desired. Bake on a greased cookie sheet. Bake 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Glaze immediately. GLAZING ICING: Boil 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water until it just barely spins a thread, 230 to 234 degrees, if using a candy thermometer. Stir in 1/4 cup powdered sugar and glaze immediately. Sift powdered sugar first.
