Chocolate Lovers Caramel Squares

Ingredients:


1 package semisweet chocolate chips -- any kind

2 tablespoons shortening

30 pieces caramel candies -- Kraft preferred

2 tablespoons water

3 tablespoons butter

1 cup peanuts or walnuts
 

Preparation / Directions:


Melt chocolate chips and shortening over pan of hot water. Spread evenly on bottom of baking pan lined with aluminum foil. Place in refrigerator until firm; about 15 minutes. Melt caramels, butter, and water over hot water. Add nuts and spread over chocolate. Refrigerate until firm. Pour remaining chocolate over caramels. Let set for about 1 hour. Cut into 1" squares. Makes 36. I use chopped walnuts.
