2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/3 cup shortening
1/3 cup butter or margarine
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 large eggs

Preparation / Directions:

Heat oven to 350F. Grease and flour 9" round or 8" square cake pan. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt into large mixer bowl. Measure all remaining ingredients into bowl with flour. Beat at low speed of electric mixer for 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Turn mixer to high speed and beat 3 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour into prepared pans. Bake about 30 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes and turn out onto wire rack to cool completely.
