Sourdough Chocolate Cake

1 3/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup milk
1 cup culture
1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 cup baking cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup boiling water

Preparation / Directions:

In a large mixing bowl, cream until light and fluffy sugar, shortening, and eggs. Add vanilla, milk, and culture, mix well. Add dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Add Water and mix completely. Pour into greased and floured 9 X 13 X 2 pan and bake 35 to 45 minutes at 350, or until cake springs back when lightly touched. Let stand in pan 10 minutes and remove to wire rack to cool. When completely cold you may frost.
