Mayonnaise Honey Cake

Ingredients:

1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup chopped dates
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup honey
1 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped pecans
---HONEY NUT TOPPING---
1/3 cup honey
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup butter -- softened
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
 

Preparation / Directions:

Pour boiling water over dates. Stir in soda and let stand. Mix together sugar, honey, mayonnaise and vanilla in large bowl. Add warm date mixture. Sift in dry ingredients all at once. Beat well. Add nuts and stir. Pour into a greased 9x13-inch pan and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Topping: Mix all ingredients together and spread over hot cake.
