Grandma Evelyn's Kentucky Jam Cake

3 large eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup sour riverview milk
1/2 cup blackberry jam
2 cups fishers blend pastry flour
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2/3 cup riverview butter or fat -- melted

Preparation / Directions:

Beat eggs, add sugar, sour milk and jam. Sift together flour, spices, baking powder and soda, and add, through the sifter, to the first mixture. Stir in melted butter and beat thoroughly. Bake in two greased layer cake pans in a moderate oven (350 F.) 25 to 35 minutes. Spread with a white boiled icing. (Sweet milk may be substituted for the sour by using 1/2 teaspoon soda instead of 1 teaspoon.)
