Orange Slice Bread

Ingredients:


1 cup candied orange slices -- finely chopped

1 tablespoon sugar

1 tablespoon flour

1/4 cup crisco butter flavored shortening sticks

1/2 cup sugar

1 large egg -- beaten

1/2 cup mashed bananas

2 1/2 cups flour -- sifted

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup chopped nuts -- optional
 

Preparation / Directions:


Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 tablespoon flour together and sprinkle on orange slices to keep them from sticking together. Cream shortening and sugar together; add egg and banana. Sift dry ingredients together; add milk. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture. Mix well. Add orange slices and nuts. Mix. Pour into greased and floured loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 65 minutes or until done. Let stand overnight before slicing. If butter flavored shortening is used to grease the pan it turns out better.
