Ingredients:

1/2 pound Dates -- pitted and finely

1 large Egg -- together

Preparation / Directions:

very well beaten 1 pound Walnuts -- in medium pieces 2 cups Flour 3/4 cup Water 1 teaspoon Baking soda 1/2 cup Sugar -- and 1 teaspoon Baking powder -- and add t. sugar/egg mixture and combine very well. Add date and nut mixture and 1/2 cup boiling water, mix very well.---> I bake this in 1 lb. cans, so that the slices are round and a little different. Remove label from can, leave one end on.**(see end of recipe) Butter the cans (2 or 3) and fill them 3/4 full. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 1/2 - 3/4 hour, or until wood pick inserted into center comes out clean. This is great served with rum/raisin and walnut cream cheese or even cinnamon apple cream cheese. **I add the ---> instruction to leave bottom of can on because I gave this recipe to someone and she called me hysterical laughing. She couldn't figure out why the batter kept oozing out while baking, but then again, she is the same person whose Angel Food Cake recipe called for Cream of Tartar, she couldn't find it, so she used Tartar Sauce, and couldn't figure out why her cake was flat and tasted
