Ingredients:

2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

3 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

6 tablespoons soft shortening

2/3 cup milk

2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

3 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

6 tablespoons soft shortening

2/3 cup milk

Preparation / Directions:

Heat oven to 450 F. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into a bowl. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or two knives until mixture resembles coarse corn meal. Make a well in center of mixture. Add milk all at once and mix lightly with a fork until a soft dough is formed. Knead dough lightly on floured board about 6 times. Handle dough lightly. Roll out to thickness of 1/2 inch. Flour a 2 inch biscuit cutter and cut biscuits close together. Pat together scraps of dough and cut out. Place biscuits on ungreased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart for crusty sides, or close together for soft sides. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, until golden brown. Makes about 12 (2 1/2 inch) biscuits.
