Hazelnut Toffee Bars

1 cup butter or margarine -- softened
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup finely chopped hazelnuts -- pecans or walnuts
6 bars milk chocolate candy bars -- (1.5 ounces each)

Preparation / Directions:

In a medium mixing bowl beat the butter or margarine with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add the brown sugar and salt and beat till combined. Beat in the milk and vanilla. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour with a wooden spoon. Stir in half of the hazelnuts, pecans, or walnuts. Spread batter in a greased 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Bake in a preheated 350ΓΈ oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or till lightly browned around the edges. Immediately place candy bars on top of the hot crust. Let stand for 2 to 3 minutes, or till chocolate is melted. Spread chocolate evenly over crust. Sprinkle remaining nuts over chocolate. Cool in pan on a rack. Cut into bars. Makes about 36 bars Preparation Time: 45 minutes
