Basic Fruit Bar Mix

Ingredients:


4 cups all purpose white flour or

2 cups white and 2 cups whole wheat flour

2 cups solid shortening -- preferable butter flavor crisco

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup brown sugar -- firmly packed

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt
 

Preparation / Directions:


Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix with pastry blender until crumbly and well blended. Store in container with tight-fitting lid. Makes 9 cups Fruit Bar Mix, sufficient for 2 batches of any of the fruit bar recipes. Variation: If you prefer Fruit bars with a rolled oats crumb base, add 1 cup of uncooked, old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats when preparing any of the recipes.
