Light And Creamy Garlic Bread

1 loaf oval loaf -- (8 ounces) french or sourdough, unsliced bread
2 tablespoons low-fat cream cheese
1/4 cup butter or margarine -- (1/2 stick)
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese

Preparation / Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut bread in half horizontally. Place remaining ingredients in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave, partially covered, on High (100%) for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring once, until melted. The mixture will not be smooth. Spread over cut sides of bread. (Bread may be wrapped in foil and refrigerated overnight or frozen.) Place cut side up on baking sheet. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until browned and crisp. Cut into slices Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 12 to 15 minutes Makes: 8 servings To make a lower fat and creamier version of toasty garlic bread, substitute light cream cheese for part of the butter.
