Spiced Berry Compote

Ingredients:


5 cups frozen blackberries or boysenberries -- thawed

5 cups frozen blueberries -- thawed

1/4 cup cornstarch

1 1/2 cups sugar -- or to taste

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1 dash freshly grated nutmeg

1 cup lighly whipped cream -- for garnish
 

Preparation / Directions:


Drain berries well; reserve 1/2 cup juice. Combine berries in a large saucepan. Add sugar and spices and bring to a boil over medium heat. Blend in dissolved cornstarch, stirring constantly until slightly thickened. Cool to room temperature, then refrigerate. Turn into glass or crystal bowl and serve with lightly whipped cream. 14 to 16 servings.
