Salzburger Nockerln (Dessert Puffs)

Ingredients:


1/4 cup butter -- or margarine

4 large egg yolks

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/8 teaspoon salt

4 large egg whites

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon sugar

1 Cup confectioners sugar
 

Preparation / Directions:


Cream butter until fluffy. Gradually beat in egg yolks. Beat in flour and salt. Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry. Fold egg whites into mixture. In a 9-inch metal pie pan, heat milk, mixed with vanilla and sugar, to a boil. Stir egg mixture into milk. Bake in preheated moderate oven (350 F.) until golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes. Cut into wedges, lift out in pieces with a pancake turner or spatula. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. Serve at once. Makes 6 serving
