Ingredients:


1/2 cup onion -- chopped

1/2 cup bell pepper chopped

3 tablespoons olive oil

1 pound ground round

2 cloves garlic

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon salt -- to taste

1 1/2 cups water

18 ounces tomato paste

1 cup romano cheese grated

1 pound mozzarella cheese sliced or grated

1 pint cottage cheese small curd

12 ounces lasagna noodles

1/2 cup onion -- chopped

1 cup romano cheese grated

1 pound mozzarella cheese sliced or grated

1 pint cottage cheese small curd

12 ounces lasagna noodles
 

Preparation / Directions:


Sauté‚onions and bell pepper in olive oil in a large sauce pan. Add ground meat, separate well and cook until no red shows. Mash garlic with a small pinch of salt and add to meat mixture. Add water, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, chili powder, pepper and salt in that order, mix well and simmer over low heat about 1/2 hour. Skim off excess fat. (Sauce should be very thick.) While sauce cooks, prepare lasagna as directed on package. Into a 9x12x2 inch baking dish or pan, spread about 1/4 of the sauce. Add a layer of Mozzarella, a layer of cottage cheese and sprinkle with grated Romano cheese. Repeat layers twice more and top off with remainder of sauce and sprinkle with grated Romano cheese. Bake uncovered in preheated 350F oven for 45 minutes while you toss your favorite green salad and chill the red wine. Cut servings with a large spatula. Serving Ideas: Serve with garlic toast or bread sticks.
