Ingredients:

2 tablespoons soft butter

1 1/4 cups soft fresh bread crumbs -- white or whole wheat

1/4 cup light brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/3 teaspoon allspice

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

2 pounds apples -- peeled, cored -- halved and sliced 1/2-inch thick

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

3 tablespoons cold unsalted butter -- cut into cubes

---brown sugar whipped cream---

1 cup chilled heavy cream

2 tablespoons light brown sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

How to Prepare Apple Brown Betty: Preheat oven to 350 F. Butter a shallow 6- x 9-inch rectangular baking dish with 2 tablespoons of softened butter. In a small bowl, combine the crumbs, brown and white sugar and spices. Toss the apples with the lemon juice. Scatter 2 tablespoons of the crumb mixture into the bottom of the baking dish. Top with 1/2 the fruit and scatter 1/4 cup of the crumbs over. Top with the remaining fruit and crumbs and dot with the 3 tablespoons of chilled butter. Bake until the crumbs are browned and fruit is bubbly and tender, about 35 minutes. How to Prepare Brown Sugar Whipped Cream: Add the chilled cream, sugar and vanilla to a chilled bowl and whip to soft peaks.
