Super Walnut Gingies

Ingredients:


2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking soda

3/4 teaspoon ginger

3/4 teaspoon cinnamon

3/4 teaspoon cloves

1/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup shortening -- half butter or margarine

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 large egg

1/4 cup light molasses

2 cups finely chopped diamond walnuts

1 Cup granulated sugar -- for rolling
 

Preparation / Directions:


Sift flour with soda, spices and salt. Cream shortening, sugars and egg together well. Stir in molasses, then flour mixture. Mix in walnuts. Shape into balls about 1 1/2 inches diameter and roll in sugar. Place about 6 inches apart on well greased baking sheets and flatten to circles about 3 1/2 inches diameter. Bake at 350 degrees F. about 10 to 12 minutes or until tops of cookies spring back when touched lightly. Allow to stand on baking sheet a minutes; using broad spatula, remove to wire cooling rack. Makes about 18 (4 1/2 inch) cookies.
