Mrs. Byrd's Oatmeal Cookies

Ingredients:


--sift together:--

1 cup sifted regular flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

--set aside

--work with a spoon until soft.--

3/4 cup shortening

--gradually add:--

1/2 cup sugar

--beat until light -- then add:--

1 large egg

--beat until light and fluffy -- then add:--

1 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1 cup raisins

1/4 cup water

1 teaspoon vanilla

--- beat well. gradually add dry ingredients mixing thoroughly

--- add:

3 cups rolled oats -- uncooked
 

Preparation / Directions:


Stir until well blended. Drop by teaspoonful onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes, or until done. Cool on wire rack. Note: Nuts may be added, if desired.
