White Chocolate Orange Dream Bars

Ingredients:


1 cup shortening -- golden crisco

2 cups brown sugar -- lightly packed

2 large egg

2 teaspoons vanilla

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

3 cups oatmeal

14 ounces sweetened condensed milk

1 1/2 cups chocolate chip -- white

2 tablespoons shortening -- golden crisco

1 tablespoon orange peel -- grated

2/3 cup almonds -- chopped pecans or
 

Preparation / Directions:


Preheat oven to 350F (180C). Grease 15" x 10" x 1" jelly roll pan. Cream 1 cup Golden Crisco shortening, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla in a large mixer bowl until smooth and creamy. Gradually add flour, baking soda and cinnamon, mixing until smooth. Stir in oats. Set aside. Heat sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips and 2 tbsp. Golden Crisco shortening on low heat, stirring often, just until melted and smooth. Stir in orange rind and nuts. Press 2/3 cup of the oat mixture (about 4 cups) into greased pan. Spread filling mixture evenly over crust. Sprinkle remaining oat mixture evenly over filling. Bake at 350F (180C) for 25-30 minutes, or until golden. Cool, then cut into bars. Excellent for freezing.
