Chocolate Chip-Cereal Cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 large eggs
2 cups gold medal all-purpose -- unbleached or whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups wheaties cereal
1 package semisweet chocolate chips -- (1 cup), (6 ounces)
1 cup chopped nuts -- if desired
 

Preparation / Directions:

Heat oven to 375ΓΈ. Stir together sugars, shortening, vanilla and eggs in large bowl until blended. Stir in remaining ingredients (dough will be stiff). Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set but not hard. Cool 3 minutes before removing from cookie sheet. About 6 dozen cookies. Coconut-Cereal Cookies: Use 1 cup flaked coconut instead of the chocolate chips. Raisin-Cereal Cookies: Use 1 cup raisins instead of the chocolate chips.
