Swedish Apple Cake

Ingredients:


4 tablespoons butter

2 cups zwieback crumbs -- sifted

2 cups applesauce -- fresh or canned

4 drops few drops fresh lemon juice

1 tablespoon angostura aromatic bitters

1 pint whipped cream
 

Preparation / Directions:


1. Melt butter in skillet; add sifted zwieback crumbs and stir until nicely brown. 2. Mix together applesauce, lemon juice and Angostura. 3. Butter baking dish well. Arrange crumbs and applesauce in alternating layers, finishing with crumbs. 4. Bake in preheated 375 F. oven 25 to 35 minutes. 5. Cool before unmolding; serve with whipped cream.
