Marzipan Fish (parve)

Ingredients:

  2       tablespoons   oil 
  3                     onions -- chopped 
  2                     garlic cloves -- minced 
    1/4   cup           marzipan 
    1/4   cup           jam or jelly 
  2       tablespoons   margarine 
  2       tablespoons   lemon juice 
    1/2   cup           chopped almonds 
    1/2   teaspoon      cinnamon 
    1/2   cup           hot water 
  4       pounds        trout, whole -- (2 whole fish) OR bass OR carp
 

Preparation:

1. Heat oil and saute onions and garlic until tender. 2. In a bowl, mash together marzipan, jam, margarine, and lemon juice. Add chopped almonds and cinnamon. 3. Pour onion mixture into baking pan and add hot water. Lay fish, cavities up, on the onions. Stuff each fish with marzipan mixture. 4. Bake at 375 F for 40 minutes or until fish flakes easily.
