Purple Prune-Plum Torte

Ingredients:

   1 1/2  pounds        fresh purple prune plums -- (12 to 14 plums)
   2      cups          all-purpose flour
     1/2  cup           sugar
     1/4  teaspoon      salt
     1/2  cup           butter
   2      teaspoons     lemon peel -- grated
   1 1/2  tablespoons   fresh lemon juice
   2                    eggs
                        ***TOPPING***
     3/4  cup           all-purpose flour
     1/3  cup           sugar
     1/2  cup           slivered almonds
     1/4  cup           butter
                        ******
                        whipped cream
 

Preparation:

1. Wash, pit and slice plums; set aside. 2. Sift together flour, sugar and salt; cut in butter. 3. Add lemon peel, lemon juice and eggs; stir until pastry is thoroughly mixed. 4. Pat into greased 10 x 15-inch baking pan. Arrange sliced plums over pastry; sprinkle topping over plums. 5. Bake in preheated 375 F. oven 25 minutes. Cut in squares and serve with whipped cream. Topping Combine flour, sugar, almonds and butter.
