Mary Livingston's Spaghetti And Meat Balls

Ingredients:

   2      pounds        ground round steak
   3      large         eggs
   2      slices        bread -- soaked in water
  10      milliliters   garlic -- mince
   4      tablespoons   parsley -- chop fine
                        -----rest of recipe-----
   2      tablespoons   olive oil
     1/2  cup           onion -- chop fine
   1      cup           tomato paste
   1 1/4  quarts        water -- hot
   1      dash          soda
   1                    bay leaf
 

Preparation:

Combine ingredients for meatballs; mix thoroughly. Form into balls the size of walnuts. Heat olive oil in heavy skillet. Brown meat balls, and remove. Combine onion, tomato paste, water, soda, and bay leaf in the skillet with the oil and meat drippings. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Simmer for five minutes. Add the meat balls, continue to simmer for 45 minutes.
