Nariyal Chutney (Coconut Chutney)

Ingredients:

   1 1/2  cups          coconut pieces
  10                    green chiles -- (to 12)
   1      1 inch piece  ginger
   4      cloves        garlic
   6      tablespoons   chopped cilantro
                        salt -- to taste
   1      tablespoon    lemon juice
                        ***TEMPERING***
                        fried chana dal or cashew nuts
   1      pinch         asafetida
  10                    curry leaves
   2      teaspoons      -- ¥
   1      gram          dal
   1      tablespoon    oil
   2      teaspoons     cashews
   1      teaspoon      mustard seeds
 

Preparation:

1. Grind all ingredients (other than tempering ingredients) to a paste adding a little water. Pour into a serving dish. 2. For tempering, heat oil, and fry the ingredients. Pour over the chutney.
