Rhineland Sweet-Sour Red Cabbage

Ingredients:

   4      slices        bacon -- diced
     1/4  cup           brown sugar
   2      tablespoons   flour
   1      teaspoon      salt
     1/8  teaspoon      pepper
     1/2  cup           water
     1/4  cup           vinegar
   1      medium head   red cabbage -- shredded
   1      small         onion -- finely chopped
 

Preparation:

Cook bacon in skillet or slow-cooking pot with browning unit. Set bacon aside. Combine 1 tbs. of bacon drippings in slow-cooking pot with sugar, flour, salt, and pepper. Stir in water and vinegar; add cabbage and onion. Cover and cook on low 3 to 4 hours. Spoon into serving bowl; sprinkle cooked bacon on top
