Savoury Cheddar Bread

Ingredients:

  2               cups  all-purpose flour
  4          teaspoons  baking powder
  1         tablespoon  white sugar
  1           teaspoon  onion salt
     1/2      teaspoon  ground oregano
     1/4      teaspoon  dry mustard
  1 1/4           cups  grated cheddar cheese -- (old)
  1              large  egg -- well beaten
  1                cup  2% low-fat milk
  1         tablespoon  melted butter -- or oil
 

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350øF. Sift together flour, baking power, sugar, onion salt, oregano and dry mustard. Add cheese. Mix egg, milk, and melted butter together. Add all at once to dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened. Put batter in a bread pan 9 x 5 ". Bake for about 45 minutes or until brown. Makes 1 loaf I had noted that I added leaf oregano and I mixed it with the sifted flour after it had been sifted, apparently it didn't go through the sifter, I believe this was I wrote this down out of a Family Circle magazine about 15 or 20 years ago and I had mentioned on the sheet of paper that I was going to served it with Roast Bee
